Blue Lake Multisport Festival, 29th - 30th January
The Blue Lake Multisport Festival held near Rotorua celebrates its 25th year with its usual action-packed sports swimming and running challenges. The event attracts riders from around the world including the seven-time Tour de France champion, cyclist Lance Armstrong (who only recently pulled out from the 2011 event due to a reported knee injury).
The festival is organised by RATs (Rotorua Association of Triathletes and Multisport), a club which caters for all levels of ability and activity. Their supportive and social interests are reflected in the great atmosphere surrounding the festival which includes:
- Aquathon - For men and women, an event involving a 5.5-kilometre run, then a swim of 800 metres.
- Blue Lake Swim – For men and women, this is a 750-metre lap incorporating the Hinemoa swim. Hinemoa swim trophies are awarded to the first competitors to complete the swim without wetsuits!
- Spring Triathlon – One 750-metre swim lap, followed by one 16-kilometre cycle loop and the run, a 5.5-kilometre loop.
- 5.5-kilometre Forest Fun Run/Walk – A non-competitive fun walk/run with spot prizes.
