Shantytown is a recreated 19th Century pioneer town and leading cultural and heritage attraction located just 10 kilometres south of Greymouth, in the West Coast region of New Zealand.

Situated amid beautiful native bush, Shantytown gives you the chance to step back in time and experience a range of activities and view fascinating relics from ages past.

Shantytown is composed of over 30 historic buildings, inspired by the West Coast gold rushes of the 1860s.

Visitors can explore the historic buildings in the town, including the local saloon, jail, church, hospital and school.

Shantytown highlights include an historical steam train ride, gold panning, a unique bush saw mill experience and the opportunity to have an old time portrait taken.

Shantytown is open every day from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm, with the exception of Christmas Day.
