Founded in 1971, with highly distinctive branding and displays of rock memorabilia, Hard Rock Cafes are theme restaurants known throughout the world. There are currently 134 Hard Rock Cafes in 54 countries and until 2004, there was a Hard Rock Cafe in New Zealand.
Hard Rock Cafe, Queenstown is now closed
The Hard Rock Cafe and adjoining shop opened on Beach Street in Queenstown in New Zealand in May 2001. The cafe closed in September 2004, with the shop following suit in January 2006. Souvenirs from the shop including t-shirts, glasses and caps turn up from time to time on popular online auction sites in New Zealand.
There are still many restaurants and cafes in Queenstown offering visitors a wide choice of cuisine and dining options, from fast-food to gourmet five-star dining. Restaurants and cafes are easy to find and being located on the main streets and by the lake are within an easy walk of most accommodations.
