A popular holiday destination, enjoying a lovely warm sub-tropical climate, Kerikeri is a wonderful mix of the new, the old and the exciting. Explore local islands, dive wrecks at the bottom of the awesome ocean bottom, hike the giant kauri forests, or relax and enjoy the historical township.

This fertile orchard town is an artist's retreat with an arts and crafts trail. Here you will also fine wineries, the magnificent 27-metre Rainbow Falls and nearby kauri forest, Puteki.

Puketi and Omahuta Forests

The Puketi and Omahuta Forests are a diverse mixture of hardwoods, podocarps and kauri.

Both forests have Department of Conservation maintained walking tracks of varying difficulties and lengths, and each has its own spectacular attractions that truly get you into the heart of New Zealand flora and fauna. Free-walk or take a guide.

Rainbow Falls

The beautiful 27-metre Rainbow Falls, located on the Kerikeri River, are a popular local tourist attraction.

Stroll along the river bank to the spectacular falls, where the water tumbles into a pool surrounded by native bush. Listen to the tui call, see fantails and much more.

The Rainbow Falls Walk leads to viewing platforms.

The Māori name for Rainbow Falls is Waianiwaniwa which means "Waters of the Rainbow".

Wharepuke Subtropical Garden

Wharepuke is a subtropical garden, nearly two hectares in size. The garden has many rare and uncommon plants from around the world.

Wharepuke Subtropical Garden is free and open to visitors throughout the year.

Palmco Gardens

Enjoy a quiet walk around the lovely Palmco Gardens, a garden featuring a magnificent display of mature field grown palms, garden design and landscape construction.

The gardens are open to the public every day.
