Bay of Plenty Attractions and Activities

Cotswold Lodge – At the southern end of the Coromandel Peninsular so day trips to scenic spots like Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove are only 1.5 hours away. Rotorua and thermal activity are also 1.5 hours away.

Hobbiton – The film location for the hobbits for Lord of the Rings is an hour over the hill at Matamata.

Take a day trip – Visit the antique centres at Paeroa and Te Aroha along the way.

Wineries – Morton Estate winery and restaurant is 15 minutes drive from Cotswold Lodge. Mills Reef and Ohinimuri Wineries are 30 minutes' drive.

Golfers – Spoilt for choice with several courses close by including Golf Pacifica.

Walking tracks – Coastal walks abound. Karangahake Historic Walk follows the Ohinimuri River. Relics of the gold mining era and a walk through the railway tunnel with glowworms above make this an interesting day. Finish with lunch at the local winery or railway cafe. A short stroll from the lodge is Ongare Point and up the hill to the old Maori pa area, the views to Athenree and the harbour are worth the walk. Further on Kauri Point jetty beckons and you can do a spot of fishing if you feel inclined.

Kayaking – On the river, sea kayaking by day, sunset or starlight, deep sea fishing charters, swim with dolphins, jet boating. All can be arranged.

Many gardens – Open to the public and in October the Garden Trail of many beautiful gardens is a garden lovers delight.
