Ataahua offers boutique Christchurch bed and breakfast accommodation set in the Brooklands Lagoon wildlife zone, a paradise you will enjoy exploring.

Your host, Julie, offers genuine Kiwi hospitality and accommodation with personality and privacy at our homestay in Christchurch.

Our Christchurch Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

There are three accommodation options available to guests at our homestay in Christchurch.

'Te Whare Waka', The Boat Shed – A truly special romantic lovers escape. A newly refurbished separate studio, only 10 metres from high tide, at the bottom of the garden and surrounded by Seafield Park Reserve. The small forest at the rear of Te Whare Waka is a special place to wander through and listen to birdsong.

'Te Moemoea', The Dreaming – Located inside the home, adjacent to the guest lounge, at ground level. French doors open to the garden. Te Moemoea has a magnificent bathroom featuring handmade New Zealand tiles with spa bath, queen-size bed and luxurious bathrobes.

'Te Arohanui', The Great Love – A separate studio with queen-size bed and en suite bathroom.

Facilities at our Christchurch Bed and Breakfast

To help ensure your private getaway is as special and uninterrupted as possible, there are no televisions, telephones or Internet located in your room. They are, however, available in the guest lounge or as portables.

Breakfast – Indulge yourself with a basket of delicious breakfast goodies delivered to your studio or join Julie for breakfast in the upper level of the house. Breakfast is included in your room rate.

Dinner – There is a traditional old style Kiwi cafe and bar across the road from Ataahua and Julie is happy to advise on cafes and restaurants. Locals may bring a picnic supper, or a BBQ is provided to cook your own.

Ataahua is located adjacent to Brooklands Lagoon in Seafield Park, a wildlife reserve zone. There are many activities to do right on your doorstep, these include:

About Brooklands Lagoon

Brooklands Lagoon is protected from the sea by Brooklands Spit and coastal sand dunes. It is an important wildlife area with countless insects invertebrates, fish, native plants and birds.

The lagoon is one of the few remaining natural wetlands in New Zealand, now that more than 90% of natural wetlands have been drained or destroyed.

Shellfish, such as pipi and cockles can be found in sandy patches close to the lagoon mouth. Eels (tuna), brown trout and yellow-eyed mullet, which can tolerate the higher concentration of salt water, feed around the mouth of the Styx River.

The Styx River mouth, only meters from Ataahua, is an important location for whitebaiting and an inanga spawning area.
