Designer Cottage Introduction

Designer Cottage bed and breakfast in Christchurch was a sailors' retreat in the 1970s and is located in peaceful surroundings just off Colombo Street (the main street of Christchurch) near the shops and opposite Sydenham Park. It is a piece of living history that is a snap shot of the traditional Kiwi lifestyle of the past.

We offer a variety of unique rooms, all of which are tastefully decorated, including share facilities, private room with en suite and self-contained two or three-bedroom cottages.

The short walk (1.8 km) to the city centre from our cottage accommodation will give you the chance to admire many listed heritage buildings on Colombo Street or take a bus from the end off our street. A free shuttle operates for part of the journey to the city.

Your friendly host, Chet, has an honours degree in Landscape Architecture and is passionate about traditional buildings and his landscaping ideas.

Designer Cottage is one of his finest collections and presents the charms of yesterday and all guests are welcome to view the 'Designer Village' and hear his stories about the cottage.

It is a small, unique and cosy self-contained circa 1900 heritage cottage with private facilities, a kitchen, two double rooms, a lounge/dining room and access to our private and landscaped garden area.

Designer 55 Cottage is extremely popular for families for a few days or a longer stay.

Designer Retreat (three bedrooms) Cottage

Designer Retreat has two double rooms and a twin room, it is a spacious home with a separate living room, a large kitchen and bathroom and a private sunny courtyard all to yourself.

Designer Retreat in Christchurch can accommodate up to six people. It has two bedrooms with queen-size beds and another with two single beds.

Designer Retreat is located in the heritage region of Christchurch city, within 15 to 20 minutes walk of the city centre.
