Set 400 feet above sea level on the side of the Tokatea Mountain range is our luxury Coromandel Lodge. Built in 2002, this bed and breakfast in Coromandel sits amongst 12 acres of lush native bush overlooking the Hauraki Gulf, with stunning views of Waiheke Island and the Whangaparaoa Peninsula.
Only five minutes from the quaint town of Coromandel and its wonderful restaurants and craft shops, Atea is everything a traveller may want in quiet and upmarket lodgings. Luxury Coromandel Lodge has three private rooms with quality chattels and decor for discerning guests to enjoy, whilst boasting electronic security gates at the entrance.
Atea means 'place amongst the stars'—and it is certainly that.
The serene and tranquil atmosphere of our Bed and Breakfast in Coromandel assures guests of peaceful accommodation and a refreshing visit to The Coromandel. Lounges, hammocks and a spa are on the main decks for guests use and relaxation. The views are spectacular.
The guest accommodation consists of three private rooms. Two of the luxuriously appointed rooms have queen-size beds and open onto large covered decks through french doors. Views of the valley and ocean abound. The third room has a king-size bed, lounge with built-in television and video, writing desk and walk-in wardrobes.
All rooms have tasteful decor, quality chattels and private en suite bathroom.
Breakfast and Dinner – Guests are served breakfast in the dining room. During the day guests may choose to use the dining room to relax in and enjoy tea and coffee. Evening meals are booked at any of the first class restaurants in Coromandel Town.
Guests may choose to enjoy a glass of New Zealand wine and a selection of nibbles prior to dinner, after which Atea offers a chauffeured return service to a restaurant.
Children – Cannot be accommodated at our luxury Coromandel Lodge due to the nature of the terrain. The Lodge is designed with double rooms for adult guests only.
Smoking – In the interests of other guests, a no smoking policy exists. Should a guest wish to smoke, they may do so in the grounds.

Ideally set amongst native bush, and overlooking the beauty of the Hauraki Gulf and Coromandel Harbour, Atea Lodge is an ideal venue for your Coromandel wedding. Atea specialises in niche weddings of up to 50 guests. It is most suitable for those wishing to celebrate in a setting that offers privacy, tranquillity and stunning views.
We believe weddings should not be a rushed affair, so we offer the venue to couples to enjoy for two days. This is a more relaxed approach, which allows couples the time to make sure everything is ready for their big day.
Atea provides the wedding venue, which includes a nine by nine metre silk lined marquee, coupled with the large covered decks of the lodge for those choosing a celebrant service. The decks are also used for musicians and entertainment.
In addition, we have support staff on hand to ensure any venue challenges are quickly taken care of. There are attractive areas on the property for photos.
Accommodation for wedding guests is available in a new, competitively priced motel only five minutes from Atea Lodge. A shuttle service is provided to and from the venue as required.
Atea Lodge is easy to find once you have arrived in Coromandel Town (1 hour from Thames by road).
Directions – Tiki Road takes you to Coromandel Town. Turn right into Kapanga Road, travel 2.5 kilometres, turn right into Driving Creek Road.
Atea is less than one kilometre from the turn off and is easily recognisable by its stone wall that features the word ATEA.
