The rimu timbers of this colonial homestead seem to whisper history. Built in 1926 for the Paganini family Holly Homestead bed and breakfast in Franz Josef is an excellent example of "Arts & Crafts" architecture mixed with casual country chic. You can feel that the people who lived here over the years lived well.
Your hosts Gerard and Bernadine (Bernie) Oudemans have tenderly refurbished the house and created a boutique B&B only three minutes drive from Franz Josef Glacier village. Choose from one of the king, queen or twin rooms; or the new deluxe super-king suite for that extra bit of decadence. All rooms have their own private en suite, crisp linen and cosy bathrobes provided.
Start your adventure in Glacier Country with breakfast at the wooden farmhouse table and enjoy the charm of a country kitchen. On a clear day you'll be entranced by the view of the Southern Alps and the Franz Josef Glacier Nevé.
Gerard and Bernie are New Zealand born and enjoy meeting and hosting people from all over the world. They can suggest just the right activities to suit you and your holiday style. Go exploring at your own pace and return home to an alpine sunset before retiring with a glass of port to the guest lounge and your welcoming bed.
Holly Homestead is a proud member of the Heritage & Character Inns of New Zealand.
Choose from a selection of four well-appointed king, queen and twin rooms, or choose our new deluxe super king suite, all with private en suite bathroom facilities.
All guest rooms have comfortable beds with electric blankets, wool duvets, quality linen and bathrobes. Our Super King splitter beds can be split to be two comfortable single beds or joined to be one large bed.
All bathrooms include heated towel rails, demister mirrors, toiletries and hairdryers.

The West Coast is memorable for its mountain peaks, massive glaciers, bizarre limestone landscapes, mysterious lakes and raging rivers, lush rainforest and a magnificent, wild coastline.
It's also memorable for its people—interesting, humorous, outdoorsy types who can tell you an interesting story or two if you have time to listen.
On the West Coast, remnants of the ice age cascade from vast snowfields of the Southern Alps to valley floors just 300 metres above sea level. Nowhere in the world's temperate zones are glaciers so accessible.
A range of walks exist surrounding the glaciers that provide excellent vantage points for viewing the glacier as well as exploring rainforest environments.
It is highly likely that glorious image of New Zealand you see in a book, calendar, magazine or poster is from the South Island's West Coast. It contains the largest area of protected land of any region in New Zealand and provides access to 5 of New Zealand's 13 national parks.
To this amazing natural landscape you can add good accommodation, fine foods, festivals and first class local guides. You can raft an underground cave, hike over a glacier, kayak a stunning lake, pan for gold and taste the traditional West Coast delicacy, whitebait.
