Mon Logis, now Napier bed and breakfast accommodation, was built as a terrace house in the 1860s. This colonial building extended into a private hotel in 1915, and in 1991 it became Mon Logis ('My Lodge'). Charm, personal service and French cuisine are the specialties of this bed and breakfast in Napier.

A little piece of France nestled in the heart of the beautiful wine growing region of Hawke's Bay.
Originally built as an English terrace house in the 1860s, this colonial building was extended into a private hotel. In 1991 our Napier bed and breakfast accommodation became Mon Logis, meaning 'my dwelling'. Only a few minutes walk to the city centre, this grand, two-storey bed and breakfast in Napier overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Mon Logis has a fascinating history as a private hotel from the early 1900s.
Now lovingly renovated, Mon Logis will cater to a maximum of eight guests and is modelled on the small privately owned French hotel. Charm, personal service and French cuisine are the specialties of this Napier bed and breakfast accommodation.
All perfectly designed for comfort and relaxation, Mon Logis is a non-smoking establishment and does not cater for children. French and Spanish are spoken and an exclusive customised vineyard tour with the host is on offer, by arrangement.
Should you want to dine out, Gerard can provide recommendations. As a trained Art Deco Society guide, Gerard can help with insight into Napier's special architecture.
This Napier bed and breakfast accommodation has individually furnished rooms—two have queen-size beds, two have twin beds, and all have their own private facilities.
Owner, Frenchman Gerard, decorated each guest room differently but in a style in keeping with the original charm of the building. Iron bedsteads, feather duvets, lace covers and fine cotton linen all create a special elegance. One room is totally furnished with pieces brought from France.
Downstairs the two guest lounges invite relaxation, with television viewing, radio and CD listening, a quiet time reading, or perhaps a game of chess or bridge. Guests can help themselves to coffee, tea or fruit juice and homemade biscuits any time of the day.
Breakfast, served in the privacy of your own room or at the downstairs dining room, could be a basket of freshly baked continental breads, croissants and brioche, with a compote of locally grown fruits or a wonderful herb omlette, crispy bacon and grilled tomatoes. Whichever is chosen certainly promises to be a most memorable meal.
Mon Logis is casual elegance at a price you can afford.
Situated on the Marine Parade, this bed and breakfast in Napier is only a few minutes walk from the centre of town.
Mon Logis boasts magical views—the villa overlooks the Pacific Ocean and Cape Kidnappers.
Expressly for your convenience we offer courtesy transport to and from the airport, coach or wineries restaurant.

Bird lovers love Cape Kidnappers because it contains the most accessible mainland gannet colony in the world. Gannets (members of the booby family) are usually island breeders, but have made an exception at Cape Kidnappers.
Adult Australasian gannets have a wing span of up to two metres and a weigh around two kilograms. Whilst ungainly on land, gannets are graceful in flight and spectacular when diving into the sea to catch fish.
To walk to the cape, leave your car at Clifton (21 kilometres south of Napier). The dramatic eight-kilometre walk takes about two hours and, as it follows the base of spectacular stratified cliffs, should be undertaken at low tide. The sea and wind have carved interesting shapes out of the soft sands and shingles of the cliffs.
Alternatives to walking to the Cape include 4WD and tractor safaris. Gerard can advise. The best time to visit is from November (hatching) until February. Guided tours operate from October until April.
The Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931 remains New Zealand's worst natural disaster. 256 persons (161 in Napier) died, and the city was largely destroyed. Mon Logis, stoutly constructed of wood, suffered minor damage and survived the devastating fires that followed the quake.
Architects planned a new city with a new look incorporating stripped classical, Spanish mission and, most notably, art deco styles. Rows of palms and Norfolk Island pines—seen immediately outside Mon Logis—were planted.
Fifty years passed before it was widely appreciated that the art deco style of the early 1930s survived in Napier and Gisborne as nowhere else Napier's Art Deco Weekend is held every year in the third week of February. The program includes wining, dining, jazz, dancing, film, theatre, house tours, vintage cars and biplane barnstormers.
