Ambleside Luxury Bed & Breakfast Introduction

Ambleside Luxury Bed & Breakfast is our luxury B&B in Nelson, New Zealand that's like its namesake in England, and has a typical “olde worlde” charm about it. The seamless addition of the purpose-built, single-storey guest wing is luxuriously appointed, exuding comfort, style and ambience that belies the “little cottage” frontage. We also have easy drive-in access that leads to secure off-street parking.

The guest area of our Nelson luxury bed and breakfast is situated at the rear of the property alongside a meandering stream that offers peace and quiet luxury with your own private entrance to the deck, separate lounge and all four suites. The suites are tastefully decorated and include heated towel rails, hair-dryers, electric blankets, quality linen and bedding, toiletries and everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Each room has its own en suite.

Ambleside is within five minute's walk to the World of WearableArt Museum and airport and approximately 20 minute's walk to Tahunanui Beach.

Our central location provides 10-minute scenic drives along the waterfront into Nelson City or Richmond—gateway to Abel Tasman National Park.

All rooms are beautifully appointed for your convenience.

The Cream Honeymoon Suite – This suite is a large room that overlooks the garden and beyond, to the stream and views of the hills. It has a queen-sized bed, dressing table and chair and is graciously appointed. Telephone facilities are also available.

The Lavender Room – This room has twin-single beds, a dressing table, overlooks the courtyard and garden, and is very warm and sunny.

The Primrose and Aqua Rooms – These rooms have twin-king-single beds, are spacious and private and suited for those looking to stay one night.

The Burgundy Room – This room has a queen-sized bed, is spacious and suitable for disabled persons. The en suite bathroom is large and accommodating, and includes a large shower and separate bath.

Guest Lounge – The guest lounge is comfortably furnished, overlooks the garden and includes an extensive brochure display, Sky TV, telephone and wireless internet and email facilities. Easy-listening music, books and games are also available.

Complimentary refreshments including local wine and beer, filtered water and hot beverages are continuously available during the course of your stay. We can also arrange a rental car for your convenience to be available at the airport, or we can collect and deliver with our courtesy vehicle.

Your Hosts of this Luxury B&B in Nelson

Robyn and Kees Van Duyn, married for 16 years felt they needed a challenge. Life was good, the children grew up and lots of times they found themselves hosting overseas visitors. To fulfil their dream of restoring an old home and owning and operating a luxury guest accommodation, they decided to do it all in the same place at the same time.

He is a painter and decorator by trade and she, a colour-coding consultant, enjoy meeting people, entertaining, gardening, travelling and the niceties of life. They have travelled extensively; Kees in particular has revisited his homeland on several occasions since emigrating in 1965.

They have lived here for many years and both are knowledgeable of the area of Nelson and the surrounding district in which they live.

There is a spirit of gracious hospitality at Ambleside and guests are assured of a warm and friendly welcome. They share Ambleside with their much loved Maine Coon cat, Chelsea who is quite a character in her own right and never ceases to amuse and entertain with her antics.

Nelson Attractions

This Nelson luxury bed and breakfast is situated about five minute's walk to the World of WearableArt and Collectable Car Museum and a further five minute's to the airport where there is also a scenic walking track that leads to the estuary.

Tahunanui Beach is only two minute's drive away and is within an easy walking distance. The old railway reserve, the beginning of which is only a minute or two away, is a scenic sealed walkway that leads to the Stoke shopping centre, and beyond to the walkway beside the bypass and the Nelson estuary. The Honest Lawyer Country Pub at the entrance to Monaco is near the estuary, which offers glorious views of the sea, mountains and the picturesque South Island coastline.

There are many and varied restaurants along Tahunanui Drive in close proximity to Ambleside Luxury Bed and Breakfast or if you wish to travel further afield, it is a few minute's drive to Nelson's finest, award-winning restaurants along the waterfront and on to Nelson city.
