Tongariro Holiday Park, accommodation in Tongariro is nestled amidst stunning bush, at the feet of three magnificent mountains—Ngaruhoe ('Mount Doom' in the Lord of the Rings), Tongariro and Ruapehu. Our Tongariro accommodation is surrounded by a maze of lakes and rivers.
The Tongariro Crossing is very close by, so our holiday park accommodation in Tongariro makes the ideal spot to stay if you want a challenging hike, experiencing this one day adventure.
We also offer guests and other travellers a car ferrying service to and from the Tongariro crossing track.

Facilities at Our Holiday Park in Tongariro
Communal Kitchen – The communal kitchen has fridges, stoves, microwave and two large zip water-heaters. It also has toasters, kettles, pots and pans; and plenty of cutlery, crockery and utensils. You can also cook on our large outdoor BBQ.
Laundry – Our laundry has a washing machine and dryer which are both coin operated. Change is available from the office. A washing tub is also in the laundry, and there is plenty of washing line space outside.
Drying Room – We have a dedicated drying room for all your snow gear.
Cafe – Our holiday park cafe is a hit with both guests and those passing through on the way to the slopes. Open from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm weekdays, and 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on the weekends, the cafe serves a wide variety of meals and snacks at great value for money.
Eivins Ski Hire – Is open seven days, from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Available for hire:
- Carving skis, boots and poles
- Snowboards and boots
- Sleds and discs
- Full selection of clothing
Games Room – Families love our games and TV room. Relax on the couch and watch TV or Sky TV. There is also a DVD player available for you to use. Our games room has a pool table and an air hockey table (both coin operated).
Spa Pool – Guests love soaking in our bubbling spa pool, it is the perfect end to a long day traversing the Tongariro Crossing or whizzing down the snowy slopes! Our spa pool is completely private.

About Tongariro National Park
The 80,000 hectare Tongariro National Park is a world heritage area, with the active volcano Mount Ruapehu dominating the landscape at 2,797 metres. It has Mount Ngauruhoe (also active) and Mount Tongariro to keep it company.
The three volcanoes are a spectacular sight on a clear day—in the colder months they are capped in snow. Mount Ruapehu is the site of the North Island's premier ski fields—Whakapapa and Turoa. The mountain was chosen by movie director Peter Jackson to play Mount Doom in his Lord of the Rings trilogy.
In summer the surrounding volcanic desert area is a wild and beautiful place for hiking, fishing and adventure activities.
Activities of the Area
Skiing – Within just 20 minutes of our holiday park accommodation in Tongariro you can be at the chairlifts and ready for a great day on the slopes. After the last day's run, head back to our Tongariro accommodation for a beautiful hot spa.
Whakapapa, on the north-western slopes of Mount Ruapehu, is New Zealand's largest developed ski area. Within the 550 hectare boundary there is excellent skiing and boarding for all levels.
Whakapapa boasts all services and amenities that you would expect to find at any international ski area. Happy Valley is a complete learner's area that is separate to the main ski area, so beginners can progress in a safe environment.

The Tongariro Crossing – This legendary track passes over varied and spectacular volcanic terrain. In the presence of active volcanoes, you'll experience a cold mountain spring, lava flows, an active crater, steam vents, natural hot springs and emerald coloured lakes.
See the moonscape craters of Ruapehu, Ngaruhoe and Tongariro, lush native forest, lava formations, glaciers, crystal clear rivers and other magnificent views.
The crossing takes seven to eight hours covering a distance of 17 kilometres one way, or you can stay overnight at the Mangatepopo Hut.
Rivers and Lakes – There are two lakes very close by: Lake Otamangakau and Lake Rotoira. The Tongariro, Wanganui and Whakapapa rivers traverse this region, providing tonnes of fun, especially during the hot summer months.
Explore Middle Earth – This area provided the perfect backdrop for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. There are several operators close by who can show you 'Middle Earth', including Mount Doom (Mount Ngaruhoe), Orc Country, Mordor and Ithilien Camp with its beautiful waterfalls and beech forests. You can see the Door of Sammath Naur, the Sea of Boulders and much more.
