Camp Waipu Cove offer Waipu campgrounds for your perfect camping getaway. Our Waipu camping ground accommodation is nestled at the southern end of beautiful Bream Bay, far from the bustle of towns and cities yet providing all your essential amenities.

Our Waipu camping ground has been a holiday haven for generations of Kiwi families, and continue to offer one of the best camping environments in New Zealand to visitors from near and far.

Campervans are welcome at Camp Waipu Cove and it is a great place to stop after picking up your van in Auckland. Only 1.5 to 2 hours north of Auckland and by the seaside. A trip to Waipu Cove is perfect to familiarise yourself with the van in preparation for your holiday around New Zealand.

Our Waipu Campground Facilities

We have two new two-bedroom self contained cabins and four one-bedroom cabins, 12 cabins in total, and there are now surf lessons available here at Waipu Cove (Learn to surf Waipu Cove).

Our Waipu campground has three large camp kitchens, which are well-equipped with fridges, microwaves, cookers and plenty of food preparation/washing up space.

Enjoy your meal al fresco – at our Waipu Cove camping ground we have a number of picnic tables in covered, outdoor dining areas.

Both laundries at Camp Waipu Cove have washing machines, dryers (coin-operated at $2 per cycle) and washing tubs. There are also outdoor washing lines for guest use.

A total of five toilet blocks and three shower blocks are available throughout Camp Waipu Cove, so that wherever your site or cabin is, you'll never have to walk too far.

We have refreshing outdoor showers around camp also; perfect for cooling off or cleaning sandy feet!

Our Waipu Cove camping ground has two great playgrounds for the little ones – situated in the middle and south end of camp.

Waipu Attractions and Activities

Waipu Cove Beach Waipu Cove Beach

Waipu Cove Beach – Open surf beach which is patrolled in season, toilets, change shed, takeaways and dairy nearby. Lovely river on the southern end which is great for the children to swim in. Across the river and over the hill is shelly bay, a small bay with shells rather than sand.

Waipu Caves – Located 16 kilometres north west of Waipu. Enter caves and the walkway at your own risk. They are on private property. Please respect the owners and past owners of theses sacred sites. Good footwear and torches essential in caves. Exceptional limestone formations and glow worms.

Fishing – Bream Bay and Mangawhai have great shore and boat fishing, as well as diving. The concrete boat ramp at the end of Alamar-Crescent in Mangawhai can be used at all times. Waipu Boat Club have a boat ramp (on Nova Scotia Drive), and both Waipu and Langs have boat ramps.

Waipu River Mouth and Estuary – At the end of Johnston Point Road in Waipu. This refuge has international significance and is the nesting area for New Zealand dotterel, variable oyster catcher and New Zealand fairy tern. Other species include reff heron, ryebill, caspian tern and banded dotterel. All are protected rare or threatened species.
