Spend a day big game fishing, go scuba diving, or snorkel with the fishes. Maybe even swim with the dolphins, or just laze on one of the beautiful beaches with the occasional swim to cool off.

For the energetic, there is also sailing and wind surfing, or sea kayaking and parasailing. Land based activities such as golfing, tramping, and orienteering are all available. Jump from a plane, go horse riding, or maybe even possum shooting in the evening.

There are many enjoyable scenic walks in the area and Puketi Forest (near Kerikeri) offers a short walk to view the giant kauri trees.

The Bay of Islands is also a rich source of historical landmarks and is known as the birthplace of our nation The Waitangi Treaty House and Grounds, next door to bustling Paihia, is a monument to the importance of our country's Treaty.

The Russell Museum and Pompallier House, also the Stone Store and Kemp House at Kerikeri, bring to life the time of the early European settlers—excellent places for visitors to better understand what makes us Kiwi's tick.
