Kinara Country Homestay Introduction
Kinara Country Homestay have been operating their country homestay in Taupo for some years and would like to offer you a special blend of Kiwi and Scots hospitality.
How do you fancy waking up in the morning and looking out over some lovely lush green fields, dotted with trees, deer and other pastoral animals? Or looking just a little way into the distance and seeing beautiful views of Lake Taupo, Mt Tauhara (our Sleeping Lady), the Kaimanawa Ranges and our four volcanoes at the southern end of the lake?
Our Taupo bed and breakfast welcomes tourists from all over the world and of course from New Zealand. We cater principally for those who would like to experience the quiet country life, and leave the stresses of the large cities behind.
Many use our Taupo homestay as a base for the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge Race. We also hold the New Zealand Iron Man Competition here in Taupo.
Our Taupo bed and breakfast is in a picturesque country setting, with a touch of the Mediterranean. It has young, but beautiful gardens to wander through or to sit and relax in. Some areas of our gardens are still in the process of being developing for the enjoyment of both our guests and ourselves.
Hopefully you, as our guests, will enjoy your visit with us so much that you will return time and time again and in doing so will see the property evolve.
At Kinara, you will be welcomed as a friend, with coffee or tea on arrival and morning and afternoon tea with muffins or cake is complimentary, this is our opportunity to get to know you and to tell you a bit about Taupo and New Zealand and for you to tell us about yourselves and your country.

Taupo Homestay Attractions and Activities
Kinara Country Homestay in Taupo is ideally suited as a base for visiting other areas of interest within an hour or two's travel of Taupo, such as Rotorua, Hamilton, Tauranga, etc.
Or why not visit the Art Deco Capital of the World—Napier, and go for a wander around the wine trails in Hawke's Bay. There are also the Waitomo Caves near Otorohanga where you can go blackwater rafting and meet the glowworms.
Our homestay in Taupo is only five minutes away from the world famous Aratiatia Rapids and Huka Falls. We also have the Lava Glass Gallery two or three minutes up the road where you can watch a master glass blower at work and maybe purchase some of his beautiful pieces.
You can also visit the Volcanic Activity Centre, learn all about the volcanic region you are now in, and experience what an earthquake feels like, or visit the many Geothermal sites, at Wairakei or Orakei Korako (The Hidden Valley) where you can see mud pools plopping away and the steam belching from the ground.
For those who just like to be up in the mountains, there is the Tongariro Crossing Walk, which is done during the summer months, and run by the Department of Conservation. This is a fantastic walk and you have to book. You have to be reasonably fit, take a packed lunch and a drink, also a good pair of boots etc.
For those who enjoy fishing, well what more could you ask for with a world famous rainbow trout fishery right on your doorstep, in Lake Taupo. There are several fishing charter boats in the area that may be hired for a period of time.
All you need is to purchase a licence, equipment is provided by the charter operator who knows where the fish are hiding, and you just never know, you may come home with a beautiful Rainbow Trout. I'm sure we can find a lovely recipe for that!
About Taupo, New Zealand
The focus of the Taupo region is Lake Taupo—New Zealand's largest lake (619 square kilometres) and the heart of the North Island.
Lake Taupo was created by a volcanic eruption so big the sun went hazy in China. Almost everywhere you look there's a volcano. Just a few minutes north of the Lake at Wairakei you'll find geothermal fields, boiling mud pools and steaming geysers.
Lake Taupo is a great vacation destination in both summer and winter. Trout fishing is a major attraction—it's now over 100 years since the first trout fry were released into the lake and today it is one of the last true wild trout fisheries in the world.
Skiing and adventure activities are other reasons to visit. And when you're not on the lake or up a mountain, you'll find the Taupo town centre crammed with cafes and interesting shops. The nearby Huka Falls area is great for picnics and nature walks—or you could take a thrilling jet boat ride right to the foot of the thundering water.
The Taupo region has some of New Zealand's finest untouched, unspoiled, uncrowded country. Just about all of it is easy to get to.
