Marlin Hotel Introduction
Marlin Hotel is our luxury hotel in Whangaroa Harbour, one of the most spectacular and hospitable gems in the Northland necklace of New Zealand.
Historically, Whangaroa figures largely in the New Zealand picture. Socially it still does too, because in the midst of this fabulous sun-stricken spot, near the head of one of New Zealand’s deepest and most scenic harbours, stands our friendly and fully licensed Northland hotel accommodation.

About the Whangaroa Area
That Marlin touch, of course, adds the flavour. Whangaroa is one of the country's leading deep sea fishing bases and is the most northern.
Some of the biggest marlins, makos, blue fins, thresher sharks and yellow tails have been weighed in at the Whangaroa Deep Sea Fishing Club's headquarters just across the road from the Marlin Hotel.
Whangaroa, on Northland's East Coast and not too far north of the Bay of Islands and Kerikeri, keeps the faith with the whole Northland tourist package deal.
It offers more than most: great scenery, walks with breathtaking views, boat trips on a harbour that are both beautiful and dramatic and fishing which can be either totally relaxing or downright exciting.
Whangaroa is not off the beaten track. It just seems that way. One of the main highways to the far north is just five kilometres down the road. For the traveller with transport, Whangaroa is an ideal base from which to explore some of the other top attractions in the north.
The Bay of Islands is just an hour's drive to the south and Kaitaia about an hour to the north, all on good roads.
Activities in Whangaroa
Deep sea fishing is what has made Whangaroa really famous and there are endless opportunities for that. Charter boats are available throughout the big-game fishing season and available all year round for line fishing, diving expeditions or just straight pleasure cruises.
Just a short distance away is the peaceful majesty of the mature Kauri groves of the Puketi forest.
The bush walks that can be taken from the Marlin Hotel offer great chances to get close to nature and see Northland at its natural best. On top of that there are numerous near-by beaches to swim or sun bathe on. Seldom are they crowded and often they are deserted.
For the motorist there are numerous local drives to off-the-beaten-track bays and beaches. Northland is also the best scuba diving area in New Zealand.
