Our Ruapehu Hotel Accommodation

The suites at our luxury Ruapehu hotel accommodation all feature unique individual touches.

The timbered interiors, queen-sized beds and large bathrooms of our New Zealand chateau create a homely feel and all accommodation is furnished with quality linens and fabrics.

Each suite has Sky TV, work-desk with telephone and modem, a lounge suite and tea/coffee making facilities. Suite bathrooms have a bath, shower and hair dryers.

The ‘Mansion’ at our Ruapehu hotel is ideal for larger groups, sleeping between six and eight adults. It boasts large open plan living with a spacious private balcony featuring alfresco dining facilities overlooking the Mangawhero River and native bush.

This suite at our Ruapehu hotel is ideal for long stays or if you are looking for lots of space and privacy.

The open-beamed ceilings in this suite create a light and spacious feeling, with French doors opening onto the balcony from the lounge and master bedroom. Two fully contained spa bathrooms add to the comfort of this apartment.

Facilities at our Ruapehu Hotel Accommodation

Our Restaurants – Our two restaurants, the Powderkeg and the Matterhorn, offer a high standard of dining, making use of local produce and a wide selection of quality New Zealand wines.

The luxurious Matterhorn Restaurant and Bar offers intimate dining in sumptuous comfort and style. The Powderkeg Restaurant and Bar, or “The Keg” as it's known locally, is one of the longest standing and best known venues in Ohakune; a favourite for après ski or for relaxing after a day in the outdoors.

We also host private functions and with modern facilities and professional staff, the Powderhorn Chateau has become a favourite for weddings, business functions, conferences and other special occasions.

Hot Pool – The Powderhorn Chateau has an indoor heated pool, maintained at between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius, located on the ground floor.

This facility is complimentary to house guests. Under fives are not permitted in the swimming pool and children aged five to 12 years must have parental supervision when swimming.

The Snowcentre – An in-house ski and snowboard shop is situated only metres from the reception area, staffed by a fully equipped, highly experienced work shop team.

If you like, your ski gear can be stored in the Snowcentre rather than in your room. Get your pre-ski wax and edge before you hit the slopes or rent some top equipment. Guests at our New Zealand chateau receive a 20% discount off all hire equipment.

Things To Do Close By

Ohakune is a year-round destination located in the central North Island, and in addition to winter skiing offers a multitude of outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, fishing golf, mountain biking, scenic flights and jet-boating.

The walking opportunities in the region are endless, the most well known being the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Shuttles are available from the hotel to and from the walkway.

Within a few minutes walk of the hotel, guests can also explore some of New Zealand's oldest native bush.

The Powderhorn offers the closest available Ruapehu hotel accommodation to Turoa Skifield, which together with Whakapapa Ski field just 30 minutes away, puts New Zealand's two largest commercial ski fields at your disposal.

Another great day trip is a jet boat tour on the Whanganui River and walk to the Bridge to Nowhere. Another "must do" and only just completed in July 2010 is the Old Coach Road cycle and walkway.
