Takatu Vineyard and Lodge Introduction

Takatu Vineyard and Lodge is the vision of Heather and John Forsman.

We offer a unique experience for guests to stay on a working Matakana vineyard in Auckland, where they may enjoy the highest standards of elegance and comfort, at our Matakana lodge accommodation and vineyard.

We were awarded the 'Most Outstanding Accommodation Experience 2010' by Tourism Auckland for the North Auckland/Rodney & Matakana Coast area.

Matakana Lodge Accommodation

An architectural and contemporary style, our Matakana lodge accommodation uses natural wood, stone and marble to complement its Matakana vineyard surroundings.

Whole walls of glass allow all day sun into Takatu Lodge in Matakana, and capture the stunning views of the surrounding Takatu Vineyard, mountain ranges and sea beyond.

Individual needs are anticipated for guests of our Matakana lodge accommodation to unwind in a peaceful setting among the vines.

High vaulted macrocarpa ceilings, open log fires inside and out, a cosy library, and outside landscaped rooms are a few of the many architectural features of Takatu Lodge.

We also provide for intimate weddings and small conferences.

Suites at our Matakana Lodge Accommodation

Relax in one of our especially designed lodge suites. Areas are spacious and optimise the spectacular surrounding views and countryside.

Each suite caters for ultimate privacy, elegance and comfort where optimising nature and natural products is essential.

Four luxurious and exclusive suites, each with their own terrace and individual outlook. Attention to detail and individual needs are anticipated so unwind in a peaceful setting.

All Suites offer:

• Super-king beds – all bed linen is of natural fibre, with 100% Egyptian cotton (500-thread) and wool
• Generous-sized en suites – soak in a double bath using handcrafted bath crystals and candles while overlooking gardens and vines. Beautiful European double wash basins, fittings and separate marble and glass showers were considered with your comfort in mind
• Heated floors and mirrors
• Accessories (shampoo, conditioner, etc) using natural products and hairdryers are also included
• Exquisite bathrobes
• Computer outlets, CD stations in every room and LCD TV on request
• Yoga mats, organic fruit juice, locally handcrafted organic chocolates, locally roasted coffee, tea (including organic and herbal), fresh fruit and other provisions are complimentary
• Therapeutic massage can be arranged on request

Matakana Vineyard

Our Matakana vineyard is situated on a warm, north facing hillside above Matakana village.

Takatu Vineyard produces its own renowned fine wine, a white wine Pinot Gris and Bordeaux style red wine Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec. The wines are elegant yet highly structured with very low yielding vines giving wonderful flavours and concentration.

Work in our Matakana vineyard is done by hand with exacting care and detailed attention given to each vine. Traditional wine making techniques are used on the hand-picked grapes to produce wine that is a true expression of the terroir.

The name Takatu translates as well-prepared and this aptly defines their approach to growing wine.
