The quality of food and wine in this splendid restaurant is guaranteed to match its unique location.
Omata provides a truly unique dining experience with its al fresco kitchen, known as “the chef's bench”, where guests sit around the kitchen in a covered, outdoor area.
The chef's bench introduces diners to the workings of a restaurant from a kitchen perspective, and provides an in-depth look into the preparation of your special meal.
A six-course dégastation menu is prepared by your personal chef for the evening, who will also share his vast knowledge on food and its preparation.
In 1836, James Busby planted a small vineyard at Waitangi. Over 160 years later, New Zealand is famous for its wines, and not far from this original vineyard, Omata Estate maintains Busby's tradition of bold, rich full-bodied wines such as Syrah, Chardonnay and Merlot, with the distinctive taste of the lush Bay of Islands.

New Zealand's rich mix of cultures belies its youth. The first Polynesian colonists arrived 1,000 years ago in waka, long canoes, sailed from the Pacific Island.
Omata was the scene of the first European settlement. The surrounding Bay of Islands harboured numerous whaling stations and Russell, New Zealand's first capital.
Omata was also the destination for many immigrants to New Zealand. In 1835 James Reddy Clendon landed New Zealand's first shipment of horses at Omata, and one of the first settlers of the time, Captain John Wright, built his homestead there.
John Wright founded New Zealand's first provisional store at Omata, and Omata Homestead now stands on this site.
The Bay of Islands is one of the world's foremost deep-sea fishing environments. Capture the spirit of Zane Grey and wrestle the huge marlin, kingfish and swordfish. Over half the game fish records for catching marlin are made in New Zealand waters.
Charter boats and expert guides are available to take you tackle fishing or perhaps you would like to try the increasingly popular saltwater fly fishing.
Dolphins and whales play in the crystal waters, the more visible clues to the teeming life beneath the surface. Scuba diving and snorkelling open up the abundant underwater world of vividly-coloured sea creatures.
Terrestrial activities include horse riding, tennis, walking, orchard visits, plentiful beaches and golf.
The pristine forests and rivers allow for superb hunting and fishing.
