Golden Bay is situated on the Northwestern tip of the South Island New Zealand. This is the home of the Te Waikoropupu Fresh Water Springs which is the clearest water in the world.
Golden Bay has beautiful gold sand beaches with crystal clear blue water. There are several bush walks in Golden Bay through beautiful native ferns and bush, some walks for the young some for the older generation.
Golden Bay is the gateway for the Abel Tasman National Park and Kahurangi National Park track walks being the Abel Tasman Park walk and the Heaphy Track. There is also plenty for the kids at Bencarri Farm with all the different animals and tame eels.
Right across the road is Anatoki Salmon where you can catch your own salmon and get it smoked while you wait. You need two to three days to visit the arts and crafts people of Golden Bay.
The Nelson region is known for its year-round sunshine, golden beaches, national parks, boutique wineries, micro breweries and a large creative community of working artists. Add to this locally grown produce, freshly caught seafood, historical streetscapes and waterfront restaurants and you'll see that it offers a thoroughly pleasurable way of life.
From Nelson it's easy to access any of the three National Parks in the area.
The Abel Tasman National Park is New Zealand's smallest national park, established in 1942.
Abel Tasman is known for its glittering gold sand beaches, turquoise water and spectacular ocean views. Limestone in the interior, freshwater rivers and pools, offshore islands, and stretches of golden sand are elements not found in such combination elsewhere in the country.
The rocky, sculptural shapes of the shoreline and the sparkling sands are results of the erosion of structural granite. The distinctive golden colour of most beaches is due to the deposits of polished quartz crystals, more resistant to the processes of erosion.
Sea kayaking allows you to explore the coast from the water. Freedom camping is an option when overnighting.
There are three main gateways into Abel Tasman National Park—in the south is Marahau and Kaiteriteri, reached by road from Motueka, and in the north is Totaranui, reached by road from Takaka in Golden Bay.
