The Reef Resort Accommodation offers luxurious and elegant holiday accommodation in Taupo, right at the edge of the famous Lake Taupo.

19 self-contained luxury motel units:

• Ten studios sleep one to two persons
• Nine one-bedroom units sleep one to four persons

We also have two absolute lake edge luxury three-bedroom apartments.

The property is located on the lake edge, with direct access to the lake from the motel and apartments. Full mountain views from most units.

Luxury Motel Units in Lake Taupo

All motel units at our holiday accommodation in Taupo have kitchen facilities, a spa bath and king or queen-size beds.

Spacious living area, phone, broadband Internet, five-channel Sky TV Digital, air conditioning, heating, and most units have a deck or balcony (standing only on balconies).

Cooked or continental breakfasts are available. Exterior heated freshwater pool and thermal pool, BBQ, and guest laundry. Three kilometres to town centre. Tariff (two persons) NZ$145 - NZ$210, extra person NZ$20. Minimum stay rates may apply. Corporate rates available.

Completed in December 2007, our two brand-new, absolute lake edge luxury three-bedroom apartments each feature three en suites (main bedroom with spa bath).

Offering full kitchen facilities and a full laundry, spacious living areas including 46-inch LCD TV, DVD, air-conditioning and central heating, phone and broadband Internet.

Highlights of Taupo

Lake Taupo is a great vacation destination in both summer and winter. Trout fishing is a major attraction—it’s now over 100 years since the first trout fry were released into the lake and today it is one of the last true wild trout fisheries in the world.

Lake Taupo is the largest fresh water lake in Australasia with water so clean a few zillion trout call it home. The Lake is 616 square kilometres—that’s about the same size as Singapore!

There are 47 rivers and streams feeding into Lake Taupo, and just one outlet—the Waikato River, New Zealand’s longest river. Taupo township is located right on the edge of the lake, with many hotels offering views across the lake to the volcanoes of Tongariro National Park.

Skiing and adventure activities are other reasons to visit. And when you’re not on the lake or up a mountain, you’ll find the Taupo town centre crammed with cafes and interesting shops.

The nearby Huka Falls area is great for picnics and nature walks—or you could take a thrilling jet boat ride right to the foot of the thundering water.

A few minutes south of the Lake is Tongariro National Park, New Zealand’s first national park and a World Heritage area. It was created in 1887 when its three magnificent volcanoes, Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe, were gifted to the people of New Zealand by the Ngati Tuwharetoa people.

On the western side of the Lake, the Pureora Forest Park is home to such rare creations as the shy kaka or bush parrot and the not-so-shy fluorescent blue mushroom.

There are hot springs and geothermal wonders all around the region:

• Do the Craters of the Moon walk—an active thermal area with mud pools, craters and steam
• Enjoy a relaxing hot soak in the thermal baths Visit Wairakei Geothermal Visitor Centre
• Take a tour of a geothermal Prawn Park hatchery and then move on to the restaurant for a meal of prawns
• Explore Orakei Korako Geyserland, 25 minutes north of Taupo, a valley of geysers, hot springs, mud volcanoes and silica terraces
