Dehra Doon Chalets offers quiet, relaxing, peaceful Nelson self-catering accommodation in a rural setting on a private six hectare lifestyle block. Great views of the beautiful Riwaka Valley and Tasman Bay, all from our Motueka holiday accommodation.

Abel Tasman National Park, Kaiteriteri Beach and Motueka all within a 10 minute drive. Ideal base for day trips to Nelson, Golden Bay and all activities, such as kayaking, wineries, bush walks, potteries, galleries, sky diving, trout fishing, golden beaches or just relaxing.

Our Nelson Self-Catering Accommodation

Three one-bedroom chalets, each with double bed and fold-out couch. All linen supplied, laundry facilities, TV, microwave etc. one unit is wheelchair accessible.

Continental breakfasts are available at an extra cost, ordered the night before.

The Nelson Region

Situated around Tasman and Golden Bays at the top of the South Island, the Nelson region is surrounded by sheltering mountain ranges, giving it a Mediterranean-type climate.

Nelson is known for its year-round sun, golden beaches, three national parks, 350 working artists, boutique wineries and the city for its historical streetscapes, waterfront cafes, fresh seafood, and a thoroughly relaxed lifestyle.

Within the sheltering confines of Tasman Bay, Nelson's beaches are safe, with silvery sand. Tahunanui Beach, within the city boundaries has the largest and best-equipped holiday park in the country.

Only the West Coast has as many national parks as Nelson. Abel Tasman, New Zealand's smallest, is a coastal wonderland of sea, sky, rocky headlands and bright golden beaches. The Nelson Lakes National Park is set amidst the mountains and glaciated valleys of south Nelson, and features beech forests and the beautiful jewel-like lakes, Rotoiti and Rotoroa.

Kahurangi, the country's second-largest national park comprises 450,000 hectares of mostly upland wilderness, with magnificent three to four-day hiking trails.

A range of adventure experiences is available including sea kayaking, white water rafting on the Buller River, tandem skydiving, four-wheel drive motorbiking through native forest and hiking on some of the country's best-known tracks. There's also a 35 kilometre, four-wheel drive trip along Farewell Spit, caving under Marble Mountain, and skiing or snowboarding the Rainbow ski area.

The South Island of New Zealand

Split into two main islands, and roughly the same size as Great Britain, New Zealand is a country of diverse geographical features—from lush rainforests to vast alpine chains, steaming volcanoes and sweeping coastlines.

The South Island is a land of geographic extremes, from the imposing snow-capped mountains of the Southern Alps, to vast plains, glacial-fed lakes and stunning coastal fiords. Mt Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain is located here, flanked by the Tasman Glacier. Much of the island is densely forested.

The South Island's largest city, Christchurch is a vibrant, cosmopolitan place with exciting festivals, theatre, modern art galleries, great shopping and award-winning attractions. An easy drive from Christchurch is Kaikoura, famous for its whale-watching attractions. On the rugged south-west coast is Milford Sound, once described by Rudyard Kipling as the eighth wonder of the world.
