Formed in 2000 by Hamilton businessman and rally enthusiast Dale Perry, he had previously been involved in rallying for 15 years as driver, co-driver and team manager.
With the experience of running many international teams in the Rally of New Zealand, Dale saw the opportunity to expand his rally car lease business into a full rally driver training programme that allowed people to drive a rally car of their own.
The idea of developing a rally school in New Zealand began to take shape and with the assistance of leading New Zealand Rally driver Marty Roestenburg, and experienced co-driver Colin Smith, Rally Drive New Zealand was born.
Since its beginnings, we have shared the experience of rally driving with people from around New Zealand and also overseas. With both the school and car leasing options, people have the opportunity to drive a rally car and experience the thrills of rallying in a hands on environment.
Our rally school in New Zealand has been successful in achieving its goal of providing the real rally experience of driving a rally car.
We offer three main options in our Programme:
Rally School Weekend – a two day weekend course. Saturday is based in Hamilton, commencing at 10:00 am with a morning classroom session. Theory on safety, navigation skills, preparation and driving techniques are covered.
An afternoon practical session of grass motorkhana events and a touring stage follow with the day concluding at 4:00 pm.
On Sunday students depart for Maramarua forest at 7:30 am. Students drive the rally cars on a real forest gravel road with an experienced tutor alongside providing expert tuition.
To round out the day students receive a ride in the rally car at rally pace with a champion rally driver. A full day is spent in the forest concluding around 3 pm.
Rally Experience Course – an introductory style course involving a morning or afternoon practical session of rally driving. The day is based in Maramarua Forest.
A short brief on the sport of rallying and driving techniques is followed by students driving a front wheel drive rally car with a tutor providing guidance.
Students complete three laps of the forest circuit driving on a gravel forest rally stage.
The day is completed with a full on ride in the passengers seat of the 4WD Mitsubishi Lancer Evo with a champion rally driver at the wheel.
Hot Seat Thrill Ride – Be strapped into the passengers seat of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Rally Car with a rally champion as your driver and enjoy a flat out blast on a five kilometre rally stage in Maramarua Forest, reaching speeds of 150 kilometres per hour on gravel!
Corporate Functions – Want to have a truly memorable experience for staff or clients? What better then a day in the beautiful surroundings of the forest, and some high adrenalin action in our fleet of rally cars.

Hamilton is located in the Waikato region which is the first region south of Greater Auckland.
Hamilton is famous for its themed gardens, and the local zoo which has the largest free flight aviary in the Southern Hemisphere—an excellent chance to find out about New Zealand’s distinctive native birds. The southern end of Hamilton’s main street offers an excellent choice of restaurants, cafes and bars.
In the Waitomo area, south of Hamilton, there’s a natural labyrinth to discover. Massive subterranean caverns are adorned with stalactites and stalagmites—formations that have been millions of years in the making. Visitors can glide through the darkness on a water-borne barge and admire the beauty and deep silence of the cave where the glow-worms overhead give the effect of an eerie underground sky.
