Absolute Adventure provides authentic adventure caving in New Zealand for the active and adventurous.
Our caving and Waitomo cave rafting offers off the beaten track, full-on adventure with a high level of physical and mental challenge rarely found in adventure tourism today.
Started by cavers wanting to share their passion for the underground, trips allow people to truly experience the sport of caving. Clients are not led by the hand. Working with very small groups allows us to give clients freedom to explore and truly capture the exhilaration of underground exploration.
Our cave, Luckie Strike, is located high in the hill country approximately 20 minutes west of the village of Waitomo Caves. Luckie Strike has a reputation amongst the caving community as one of the most physically demanding and beautiful caves in the country.
The challenge is to explore over a kilometre from daylight traversing, climbing, crawling, abseiling and squeezing through wet and dry passages and up waterfalls. The passages are dripping with pristine crystal formations of all shapes and sizes.
We capture all this action along with the stunning scenery on our waterproof digital camera and clients take away a CD of photos free of charge.
We provide all the cave clothing necessary to keep clients warm underground. This includes two layers of thermals, fleece top, waterproof jacket, overalls, wetsuit sox and boots.
Underground snacks such as hot tea, biscuit and chocolate bar, along with hot showers after the trip and free entry to the Waitomo Museum of Caves are also included.
We have a guide to client ratio of 1:5 so both trips have a maximum limit of 5 people per group.
Two trip options:

The underground is a unique environment that contrasts hardship and fear with thrill and beauty. It is a wilderness that is easily accessible and provides an exciting place to teach and to learn.
Hard skills that are taught take in aspects of rock, water and bush combined with teamwork, leadership, trip planning and environmental education.
Courses available include:
Our guides and instructors are amongst the best cavers in the country. They also climb rock and mountains, paddle rivers, explore the bush, sea kayak, sail, fly paragliders and mountain bike. This puts them in the unique position of being able to relate the learning in the caves to the outdoors as a whole, which they do very well.
Their experience also enables them to push people hard, not so hard as to compromise learning, just hard enough though to enhance it.
