The Ultimate Canterbury Whitewater Rafting Trip

Yes, this Canterbury river-rafting trip offers excitement, but it is still suitable for first timers. The trip begins on a very flat grade one stretch of water and is incredibly scenic. In fact, this valley was the site of Edoras, Lord of the Rings.

The flat section allows you time for a full safety brief, training, and time to get to know your fellow rafters. As the massive volume of water begins to wind through the gorge, the rapids build in a natural progression to the intense grade four and five sections where you ride “Roosters Tails”, drop into “Pigs Trough” and hang on through “The Pinch”.

There is always the option to walk around any rapids; sometimes people like to know this option exists before they begin.

After that buzz there is the opportunity for some swimming and an optional leap from the famous “Jump Rock”.

This was one of the best outdoor activity companies I got to know here in New Zealand. Definitely the best way for me to spend my last day in New Zealand. You guys made my day.

Additional Information about our Canterbury Whitewater Rafting

The itinerary for our Canterbury river-rafting trips is:

• Optional return transport from Christchurch to our river base. Pick up is at 8:15 am, returns at 7 pm.
• Self-drive, arrive at our lodge 10:30 am. The rafting base is located off the main route from Christchurch to Queenstown, 20 minutes from Geraldine through Peel Forest Village.
• On arrival at the rafting lodge everyone meets for an early fresh lunch, all safety and comfort equipment is provided, but bring along your swimsuit and towel.
• Approximately three hours of rafting; return to our lodge for hot showers and a traditional kiwi BBQ.
• No previous experience is necessary, although clients do need to have a reasonable standard of fitness and a minimum age of 15 years.

High Country Lodge Accommodation

Relax and enjoy the rural beauty of New Zealand at Rangitata Rafts lodge, located on one of New Zealand's first high country sheep stations at the foot of the Southern Alps.

Two nights in this lovely hideaway and a superb day rafting—what an excellent way to end my New Zealand trip.

The Canterbury Region

The Canterbury Region includes a large central portion of the East Coast of the South Island, centred on the city of Christchurch.
