Hauraki Gulf – The Hauraki Gulf is home to the city of Auckland and great boating holidays. One of the world's largest and most beautiful charter cruising areas with 1,500 miles of coastline to explore, comprising numerous islands with a wide choice of anchorage's and unspoilt beaches.
The Hauraki Gulf provides excellent year-round sailing conditions with comfortable temperatures and average wind strengths of 10 to 25 knots. With over 80 islands all within short sailing distances, the choice of activities are limitless.
Bay of Islands – The Bay of Islands maritime park is a boating paradise with 130 miles of magnificent scenery and over 86 different islands. The mild climate and gentle sea breezes make the Bay of Islands one of the world's most renowned cruising grounds. Long golden sandy beaches and uninhabited, park-like islands offer unlimited opportunities for cruising, swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, dolphin spotting and sightseeing.
The pretty town of Opua is a well-known base for cruising yachts visiting New Zealand. Opua is the pick-up and drop-off point for all our Bay of Islands charters.
Urupukapuka, the largest of the islands, forms a natural barrier protecting the inner islands from ocean swells. On the lee-side of the island are several bays offering safe, picturesque anchorages.
A short sail from Urupukapuka are Moturua and Roberton Islands. Both offer superb anchorages and Roberton Island boasts a long golden sandy beach. Try snorkelling in one of the rock pools. This park-like island is a great place to spend time ashore.
North of the Bay are the Cavali Islands, a haven for the diving and fishing enthusiasts. Dive on New Zealand's own “Rainbow Warrior” wreck.
New Zealand's largest city, Auckland, has a population of just over one million people and is located near the top of the North Island, flanked by the Waitemata and Manukau harbours.
The country's capital city, Wellington, at the southern end of the North Island boasts around 400 cafes and restaurants. The main city in the South Island is Christchurch, often referred to as the Garden City thanks to its many spectacular public gardens.
The North Island is a land of geothermal activity, golden beaches and sub-tropical rainforests, and its climate makes for a year-round destination.
Geysers, mud pools, and live volcanoes are found throughout the region. At the heart of the North Island is Lake Taupo, the result of volcanic eruptions over two thousand years ago.
The South Island is a land of geographic extremes, from the imposing snow-capped mountains of the Southern Alps, to vast plains, glacial-fed lakes and stunning coastal fiords.
Aoraki/Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain is located here, flanked by the Tasman Glacier. Much of the island is densely forested.
