Reel Awesome Fishing Charters Charter Boat

The Reel Awesome is a 51' OA Riviera Passagemaker, designed and built in Australia by Riviera PTY Ltd for the serious sport fisherman, as well as the first time angler.

Designed with "luxury" in mind, the saloon, as with all en suites and cabins, offers superb accommodation.

The Reel Awesome is powered by twin 485 horse-power supercharged Detroit diesel engines, which provide a fast and comfortable ride and is equipped with the latest in electronics and top-of-the-line Penn fishing tackle.

Reel Awesome is uniquely full walk-around making it ideally suited to salt water fly-fishing. With its huge cockpit and massive 15'3" beam, this is a serious Three-Kings' boat.

Underwater exhausts have been installed to eliminate noise, smell and smoke.

The fully enclosable flybridge is the largest of all Riviera's. It is HUGE!! Seating for six passengers plus crew in absolute luxury.

The flybridge provides for a commanding view of the cockpit and all rods and lures in the water while also providing for superb spotting ability in a 360-degree view of the water.

The saloon has seating for six in a wrap-around sumptuous leather settee. The entertainment centre provides colour TV, DVD and VHS, and surround sound CD stereo.

12vdc and 230AC is provided for your convenience with plenty of charging points.

The Galley is all-electric for safety with a four-element ceran top and convection microwave. Refrigeration is in the form of a 230-litre upright custom-built Eutectic fridge in the galley, and 200-litre Eutectic freezer in the cockpit.

Unlimited water supply is via a Spectra Desalinator. Beautiful clean water!!!

The Skipper for Reel Awesome Fishing Charters

Rick Jacobson, qualified to the highest level attainable in New Zealand for a game fishing charter boat is a New Zealand Offshore MASTER NZOM and has over 28 years of recreational and commercial experience in the fishing and diving industry.

Rick has fished extensively from the Three Kings Islands down to Great Barrier Island but without doubt Rick has built up a formidable level of local knowledge in the Whangaroa area.

Rick started off game fishing from a private boat called Awesome Too and quickly became the top game boat for the Auckland Sportfishing club, winning all trophies for most marlin many times over.

Rick then moved to the more productive fishing grounds of Whangaroa with Awesome Too and again quickly became the top private boat for the Whangaroa Gamefishing Club for many years.

It was inevitable that Rick would be lured into chartering and this was accomplished with the purchase of "Reel Awesome", a vessel that was specifically purchased for its capability of fishing as far away as the Three Kings Islands in great safety and comfort.

Self-Catering Lodge Accommodation

When you just want to lay back and relax, enjoy the view, take a stroll around the beautiful Whangaroa Harbour, go sightseeing or take a day trip fishing excursion, then our lodge accommodation is for you.

Reel Awesome Charters has its own private self-catering lodge accommodation units to compliment its fishing charter operation. The view is to die for and two self-contained units are available. One caters for a maximum of three guests in a double-bedroom apartment with own private deck.

The other unit caters for a maximum of six guests in a three-double-bedroom lodge also with own private deck.

Both accommodation units overlook the whole harbour and are to a high standard.

Whangaroa Harbour Location

Whangaroa Harbour, situated in the far north of New Zealand on the protected East Coast is without doubt the most productive marlin fishing grounds in New Zealand, and world renown for having the largest striped marlin in the world. When marlin fishing just 15 minutes from the entrance to the protected harbour, pack attacks are not uncommon.

Reel Awesome operates from the beautiful Whangaroa Harbour during summer and out of Auckland during part of the winter and is available to fish the productive fishing grounds of Tutukaka to The Three Kings Islands.

Whangaroa is considered by many to be the marlin capital of New Zealand with the fishing grounds being just 15 minutes away! Reel Awesome is berthed in the marina situated directly in front of the famous Whangaroa Deep Sea Anglers Club.

Conservation and information are extremely important to the sportfishing industry. The Reel Awesome fishing team supports tag and release, the final decision being with the angler.
