Moeraki Fishing Charters Introduction

Moeraki Fishing Charters has been running since 1991 in the small fishing village of Moeraki in North Otago.

Our New Zealand fishing charter boats, the KIWA and AARI, are the only boats in Moeraki that run as a seven day a week charter.

Blue Cod, Groper and Crayfish are just some of the seafood in plentiful supply around the area and our Otago Moeraki charter company will enjoy taking you out to catch these.

At Moeraki Fishing Charters our aim is to provide you with an excellent day fishing as well as plenty of fresh fish for your frypan.

Our charter boat, KIWA, can take up to 10 passengers and is available for fishing charters seven days a week.

Tea and coffee are provided onboard KIWA and you are also welcome to bring your own food and refreshments. We have a gas oven and cooker and we will happily cook up some of your fresh caught blue cod.

For the comfort of guests on one of our New Zealand fishing charters, KIWA has an onboard toilet.

Our other boat, AARI, is a 40 foot alloy vessel which features a large deck space and excellent on board facilities including brand new rods and Alvey reels.

The AARI can take groups of up to 15 passengers.

We recommend our Moeraki fishing charter guests bring warm clothing, sunscreen, hats and of course a chilly bin to take away your fresh fish.

Cellphone coverage is quite extensive over the fishing grounds.

We also offer an awesome fishing in Moeraki package deal, which includes:

  • A fishing charter with Moeraki Fishing Charters
  • One night's accommodation in Moeraki
  • Continental breakfast
  • One evening meal at Moeraki Tavern
  • Morning tea and lunch supplied on the charter

About Moeraki

Moeraki is a great little fishing village in North Otago, approximately a one hour drive north of Dunedin and three and a half hours south of Christchurch. It provides excellent fishing, sightseeing and leisure activities.

The village is best known for the nearby Moeraki Boulders, which are unusually large and spherical boulders lying along a stretch of Koekohe Beach on the wave cut Otago coast.

According to Māori legend, the boulders are gourds washed from the great voyaging canoe Araiteuru when it was wrecked upon landfall in New Zealand some 1000 years ago.

The Otago Region

Central Otago is the only region in New Zealand to experience a near continental climate, having the hottest summers and coldest winters in New Zealand.

Old trails that provided access for thousands of miners in the gold rush of the 1860s can still be seen winding over the hills, along with stone cottages, cleverly engineered water channels, mines and machinery associated with the gold rush.

Wine has become one of Central Otago's newest claims to fame. Many of the wineries offer tastings throughout the summer months. Central Otago can also offer you the thrill of mountain biking through remote tussock and the leisurely pleasure of a stroll through wild mountain flowers.

Arts, crafts and fine regional food are other reasons to come. And then there's the jet boating, boat and fishing charters, gold panning and ice skating on a clear winter's day.
