Hangi Meal – Mitai Maori Village in Rotorua are proud to offer you an authentic hangi meal that is cooked in the earth oven known as 'the hangi pit'.
Your menu includes a hot selection of succulent New Zealand lamb, chicken, potatoes (rewai), sweet potato (kumara) and stuffing (a combination of bread, mixed herbs, corn, carrots and peas).
War Canoe/Waka – Hand carved by the Mitai family, the waka (ancient war canoe) paddles by, leaving you spellbound. At our Maori experience in Rotorua you will see warriors by night in traditional dress travelling down the Wai-O-Whiro Stream as they did many years ago.
Cultural Performance – In the natural bush setting, our performers take you back to a time when the ancient Maori customs and traditions were part of everyday life. Through songs and dances plus tales and legends told, you will learn a great deal about our fascinating past.
Guided Bush Walk and Glow Worms – Mitai Maori Village in Rotorua is home to Rotorua's only glow worms in their natural setting.
This guided bush walk will let you learn about the history of the area, the old medicinal uses of the native flora and fauna and fascinating myths and legends.
Beauty by Night – This exiting evening combo, Beauty by Night meets the People of the Land, combines our Rotorua Maori cultural experience with the Rainbow Springs Beauty by night.
The opening, provided by the Mitai Maori Cultural Group features Maori warriors paddling down Wai-o-whiro stream by waka (war canoe), followed by our Maori cultural performance, topped with a succulent hangi meal, tranquil bush walk, glow worm viewing, and a visit to sacred Fairy Spring.
