Ideally located, Stonefly Lodge is only 50 minutes away from the world-famous Abel Tasman National Park - renowned for its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs and walking tracks. The lodge also provides easy access to the nearby Nelson Lakes and Kahurangi National Parks, offering access to world-class brown trout rivers, spectacular New Zealand scenery and wilderness activities.

Fly Fishing in Nelson

Stonefly Lodge offers guided fishing to visible New Zealand trout locations for an exhilarating fly fishing experience.

Average catch size of brown trout in the Nelson region is approximately three to four pounds. Six pounds plus is also quite common with the chance of a trophy ten-pound brown trout only a cast away.

We have a wide range of rivers in the Nelson region. Experience relatively gentle flowing, easy access rivers to more adventurous back country streams requiring more accurate casting and a suitable level of fitness.

Further afield, within an hours drive of our Nelson fly fishing lodge, guests can access dozens of quality fishing streams and rivers within the Nelson Lakes and northern Murchison region.

Access more remote fly fishing areas with the aid of the Stonefly Lodge helicopter. View spectacular scenery by air on the way into these remote locations on your heli-fishing experience.

Nelson Activities for Non-Fishing Guests

The location for our Nelson lodge was chosen not only because of the unique river setting but because of its central position in relation to the main attractions of the wider region. The three major National Parks and the Nelson's regional wineries are all within an hours drive from Stonefly Lodge.
