Kaikoura Wilderness Walks
Let Kaikoura Wilderness Walks introduce you to New Zealand guided walks in Kaikoura which will provoke a combination of emotion, pleasure and above all, a sense of personal achievement on a truly authentic and diverse wilderness encounter.
Kaikoura Wilderness Walks, located in New Zealand's South Island, offers guided walks in Canterbury's Kaikoura region through the Puhi Peaks Nature Reserve.
The reserve is a protected significant natural area of international importance, famous as a haven for a diverse array of rare and endangered native species of flora and fauna. Added to this is the opportunity of viewing a variety of native bird species as well as resident wildlife including deer and chamois.
Our Guided Walks in Kaikoura
Kaikoura Wilderness Walks will take you on an exclusive guided walk through the privately owned Puhi Peaks Nature Reserve, New Zealands' highest privately owned land.
Enjoy three days/two nights or two days/one night staying at the luxurious Shearwater Lodge set in a spectacular alpine valley at an elevation of 1,000 metres (3,280 feet). Six guests rooms accommodate up to twelve people, on a twin share basis. All rooms are en suite with private balconies which offer sweeping vistas of this outstanding landscape. NZ cuisine and great hospitality are a highlight of this trip. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail.
You need average fitness with good mobility and be able to walk for 5 -7 hours over varied tracks and terrain each day. The track surface varies from smooth, well-formed paths to uneven terrain with occasional steeper gradients that you would expect of an alpine environment.
During the walk, interpretation by your guide on the environment means regular stops. The guides will ensure a pace suitable to the ability of the group. The total distance walked each day is approximately 8.5 kilometres.
Carry only a day-pack for personal items such as camera, drink bottle, sunscreen, medication, etc, plus, wet weather gear. Your luggage is transported ahead to the lodge.
Transfers are from Kaikoura to and from the walk. Only day packs are required, we do the rest. All meals are included.
The cost covers: guiding on the walk, transfers both ways between Kaikoura and the track, luggage transport to the Lodge, all meals, complimentary wine or beer and your accommodation over the two or three days.
