A magical place of learning and fun, Wellington Zoo will enhance your sense of wonder, respect for nature, and belief in the need for a sustainable co-existence between wildlife and people.
Home to New Zealand's native treasures and endangered exotic animals, Wellington Zoo is open 364 days a year, every day except Christmas Day, from 9.30 am - 5.00 pm. We're located at 200 Daniell Street, Newtown, Wellington; catch the number 10 or 23 bus from the city.
Visitors to Wellington Zoo have the opportunity to see a kiwi up close every day at 1:15 pm when Tahi the one-legged kiwi will be in the Wild Theatre as part of a demonstration with a Zoo guide to answer your questions afterwards. Tahi is a great advocate for his species—hear the story of this plucky little kiwi, and how he lost his leg, from our guides.
Looking for a truly unique animal experience? Then roll up your sleeves and prepare to meet some of Wellington Zoo's most vivacious, loveable and quirky creatures.
Close Encounters bring animals and people together—choose from a big cat, cheetah, red panda or giraffe Close Encounter. 10% of all proceeds from Close Encounters go towards conservation projects administered through the Wellington Zoo Conservation Fund.
