The International Adventure Leader programme is an exciting 12-week course offering training, travel and work in New Zealand.

New Zealand is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. It’s small and compact size (278,000 square kilometres) and unique place in the world allows us to go from golden beaches, rainforests, spectacular river gorges to alpine snowfields all in one day!

Aimed at overseas students, participants of the International Adventure Leader programme will train in a range of outdoor activities and travel as part of a small dynamic team, using all of New Zealand’s South Island as their classroom.

The training includes both technical and leadership skills, personal development and life skills, travelling, social time and assistance in gaining paid employment.

Adventure Skills

The training provides the skills and experience needed to start a new career as an adventure professional and can also serve as a valuable learning opportunity between school and university, whilst studying or as an exciting organised adventure in New Zealand.

It is designed for people who want to:

  • Learn technical skills in a wide range of adventure activities
  • Develop more self confidence and independence as an individual and a leader of others
  • Gain enough leadership experience and knowledge to work in the adventure industry in New Zealand or worldwide
  • Want assistance in finding a job in the adventure industry
  • Experience learning, travel and life as part of a small dynamic team with the opportunity to create friendships to last a lifetime
  • Study in the most beautiful and suitable outdoor locations in New Zealand!

Interspersed with the development of your personal skills, is the opportunity to expand your leadership skills, with specific training in the following areas:

  • Outdoor first aid
  • Risk management training
  • Leadership training
  • Teaching skills
  • Pool lifeguard training
  • Instructing adventure activities to an introductory level
  • Actual work experience running activities for children

During the programme you will also get the opportunity to explore yourself as an individual, and your role as part of a team. The development of your team and personal leadership skills is of value for any future direction or pathway.
