At Classic Motorcycle Tours you can seize the opportunity and ride the legendary Triumph Bonneville or Tiger motorcycle with the help of our South Island motorcycle tours.
Triumph Bonnevilles and Tigers are post-1976, and were the obvious choice for motorbike hire in New Zealand, for several reasons. They epitomize the British classic motorcycle with their iconic good looks, lithe handling ability, and are compact and practical. It is this character and attitude that have defined Triumph motorcycles for decades—qualities that were foremost in our minds as we planned our South Island motorcycle tours.
Many miles on the road and extensive local knowledge contribute to an unforgettable 11-day tour itinerary. Our South Island motorcycle tours team are your host and guide, arranging your accommodation and dining in some of New Zealand's most historic and scenic locations. A support vehicle accompanies each tour and pillions are welcome to ride or drive.
Featuring foremost in our New Zealand motorcycle tours is the unique scenery of the World Heritage Parks of Fiordland and Westland with rugged coastlines, scorched plains and the glacial lakes of Wanaka and Queenstown. See the land and the New Zealand way of life first hand.
Step back in time and join the leisurely pace of nine Triumph motorcycles on a 2,250 kilometre road trip—be a part of the legend.
Itinerary – Departing from Lake Hawea, we head north up the West Coast to Hokitika, crossing the Southern Alps at Arthurs Pass. Via the mid-Canterbury Plains, Aoraki/Mount Cook and the Waitaki Valley, we arrive at the fishing village of Moeraki on the East Coast. Inland again, the Central Otago gold trails lead us to the wild coastal road of the Catlins and on to our Southern most city Invercargill. Cruising on Doubtful Sound is the Fiordland experience, followed by our last night on the road in Queenstown. Passing through Arrowtown and Wanaka, we then return to Lake Hawea.
Accommodation – Accommodation styles range from an exclusive lodge, chosen for an award winning restaurant and unique location, to historic country hotels with a colourful past.
Motorcycles – Riders must be prepared for the experience of a 70s era 750 cc Triumph motorcycle, eg. kick start only.
Riders must hold a valid unrestricted motorcycle drivers licence and have at least two years of motorcycle driving experience. A minimum age of 20 years applies.

Triumph Bonnevilles and Tigers were the obvious choice for touring New Zealand roads for several reasons.
The left hand gear change is in line with modern motorcycles. Reliability has been further enhanced by a good supply of spare parts and the potential for upgrading. The combination of these features gives us a classic motorcycle that can hold its own in today's traffic and is a pleasure to ride.
All bikes have had modifications that make them more efficient and rideable. Electrics have been the downfall of British bikes for years. With the fitting of electronic ignition and a little black box that does away with the rectifier and zener diode, this has eliminated most potential problems. A spin on oil filter and cooler has also been fitted to all machines. This has the twofold effect of increasing the oil capacity, as well as cooling and filtering the oil before returning it to the reservoir.
Apart from the modifications above, all machines have factory specifications and are maintained to the highest standard.
