Elm Wildlife Tours Introduction

Elm Wildlife Tours is based in Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand and offers Dunedin wildlife tours on the south-eastern coast of New Zealand.

Our wildlife tours in Otago have been the highlight of many visitors trip to New Zealand. We show visitors some of the most spectacular wildlife spots in the area including our private wildlife sanctuary conservation area, where excellent close-up viewing of some of the world's rarest wildlife is available.

We operate three different tour products, our daily scheduled wildlife tour to the Otago peninsula with its three options is known as Peninsula encounters.

A full-day nature experience through the Catlins area on the south east coast with a connection and options on Stewart Island is known as Catlins encounters, and is available on a private charter basis to groups of six or more, and our exclusive private tours are known as Wild Coast Explorer.

Our tours have received many awards including New Zealand Tourism Awards six times as winner or finalist, and have been benchmarked by the Green Globe system, to the highest environmental standard of operation based on agenda 21 of the Rio earth conference.

We are active in conservation, particularly to benefit yellow-eyed penguins with a long term plan to increase their available breeding area by continuing to replant native habitat in the wildlife sanctuary.

We are fortunate to work with landowners who see the future benefit of doing so, and congratulate them on their efforts, particularly the predator control and additional planting of native species which has been carried out.

Our Dunedin Wildlife Tours

Peninsula Encounters – Half-day 'wildlife packed' tour on the beautiful Otago Peninsula. Options include a Taiaroa head boat cruise on the 'Monarch', an Albatross breeding area tour at the Royal Albatross Centre or a full day, active morning kayaking and afternoon wildlife tour.

Wild Coast Explorer – Private, personalised one-day or multi-day eco and scenic experiences. If you wish for a comfortable unhurried full Southern Coast experience, then this is the tour for you. Individual packages including accommodation can be created to meet your choice. Ideal as a day excursion from cruise ships berthing at Port Chalmers.

Cruise Ship Tours – Land-based award winning tour of the Otago peninsula including albatross, penguins, sea lions and fur seals. The cruise ship shore excursion provides an exciting day option during your Port Chalmers, Dunedin stopover. Tours include boxed lunch and option of including a Royal Albatross tour.

Catlins Encounters and Stewart Island Connection – Full-day nature tour along the Catlins coast with its amazing wildlife, forests, waterfalls, rivers, lakes and stunning coastal scenery. Combinations with onward options and connections to Stewart Island or the southern lakes make this tour a must do (group bookings only, minimum of six persons).
