Well established for several years, Bill Forsyth founded Queenstown Heritage Tours and retired giving us, Yasmine Sander and Wolfgang Ickenroth, the chance to take over.
All our driver guides have several years of experience in guiding, especially into Skippers Canyon. We invite you to listen to their stories and expertise on our personal tours of Queenstown. All of them love to share their passion with you.
Hells Gate, Devils Corner and Deep Creek just to name a few! Join this scenic personal tour of Queenstown exploring the mystical lands of Skippers Canyon. Parts of the terrain you will visit became famous when it starred in the blockbuster epic 'Lord of the Rings'.
Ever since New Zealand's earliest days of settlement visitors came from all over the world to Skippers Canyon. But the road to riches was also the road to hardship. The Skippers Road was hand hewn from rock by men yielding pickaxes and shovels, and in many places is perched hundreds of meters directly above the incredibly gold-rich Shotover River.
Now however, the Skippers Road can be traveled in comfort. Our luxury four wheel drive vehicles will take you on a fascinating tour into history. Guarantee of a forward facing seat, easy access, superb suspension, big viewing windows (including full length 'sky windows') full air conditioning, an authentic commentary: these are what make our journey different from any other.
We are proud of our refreshment stops—they have become highlighted features in many travel guide books. Home made delicious cheese crackers are served with tea or coffee. Perched more than 100 meters directly above the mighty Shotover River, your outdoor picnic location—surrounded by this landscape—is nothing short of breathtaking.
Most likely you will stay in Queenstown for two or three days. Perhaps you will stay here only for two nights which makes your holiday time very precious. As Queenstown has so much to offer, all visitors are spoilt for choices.
Why don't you aim for a combination of two services? Are you interested in seeing the outstanding natural beauty of Queenstown's backcountry? Would you like to sit back and relax a little—away from the hustle and bustle of you daily routine? And is a glass of wine, enjoyed in the afternoon sun the icing on your holiday-cake? During this full-day get away, you will travel in comfort and style through Queenstown's heritage.
In the morning we bring you closer to our history of the gold rush in 1860s. You will travel in very comfortable 4wheel drive vehicles through Skippers Canyon. You will surely be impressed by its stunning views.
After leaving the canyon, we drive to the first of three wineries. Here you will be served a delicious lunch. You may use this extended stop to have a heart-to-heart chat with the winemaker who loves to share with you their experiences. The afternoon is fully dedicated to wine tasting. Enjoy the fruits of our terroir and learn what makes wines from Central Otago so different to any other wine in the world. Indulge in your mood to find the perfect wine that matches your most valuable holiday memories.

Queenstown is the activity centre of New Zealand's South Island. Here you find every service your heart yearns for: from Bungy Jump to Jet Boat, River Rafting and Sightseeing Tours.
Eventually, you will have dinner on the lovely Earnslaw in the evening. So what are your plans for the afternoon? You might want to sit back and relax a little. While doing this you could get connected to the local heritage. If you are interested in getting acquainted to one of Queenstown's heritage pillars, then you should join our tour.
Central Otago/Queenstown is famous for its gold rush and its wine culture. In fact, history tells us that these two facts are connected to each other as the commercial wine production was introduced by a French immigrant gold miner, Jean Desire Feraud around 1860.
Theory says that wine tasting is the sensory evaluation of wine—what an abstract and cold description of this passionate and very sociable sensation. We put theory into practice and lead you to your very personal evaluation of Central Otago's premier wines.
