Mountains, rivers, plains, astonishing coastlines: New Zealand has it all. But what makes a country is its people and the people of New Zealand are as diverse in culture and enterprise as the scenery that surrounds them.
We offer free motorhome haven and campervan sites in New Zealand, an alternative to overnight parking for motorhome travellers. Enjoy interacting with local Kiwis and sample a little of their lifestyle during your motorhome holidays in New Zealand.
Stay on private, rural properties in the Native Parks Motorhome Haven network. Meet the people and really experience New Zealand with a Native Parks membership.
Native Parks is a business that is being developed by Adrian Tonks and Carmen Penney.
While travelling by campervan around Europe we came across France Passion. The original attraction was the zero cost overnight parking, however this was soon replaced by the enjoyment of interacting with the local people and sampling a little of their lifestyle.
From this the Native Parks concept was born.
When we returned home we resolved to move the motorhome and RV traveller out of the truck stops and rest areas and into the rural community. The Native Parks concept meshes well with our own beliefs that the future of our country lies in growing local business.
As a member of the Native Parks community you will receive a Native Parks Membership card. The card is used to gain access to overnight stays on private properties.
Members receive the Native Parks guide book. The guidebook is strictly for members and includes all the locations you can visit and stay overnight.
The guidebook is a 72 page booklet covering the complete list of Native Parks Motorhome Havens. Includes directions to the Motorhome Havens, important information about the various New Zealand regions, freedom camping rules and dumpstation locations.
Memberships for the current year last from 1st September to 31st August.

New Zealand is situated in the southwest Pacific Ocean, its nearest neighbour being Australia, which lies to the west. New Zealand consists of two main islands, cunningly named the North Island and the South Island.
North Island – an amazing geographical diversity that for most makes it such a fascinating destination and truly an outdoor enthusiast’s nirvana. North Island visitors can experience beautiful beaches, lakes, native bushlands, spectacular rivers, mountains, hot springs and boiling mud pools.
South Island – the scenic beauty is simply jaw-dropping making it one of the world’s most stunning regions. Its most striking feature, the Southern Alps, is a chain of rugged mountain peaks, a magnet for skiers, snowboarders and mountaineers from all over the globe. Pristine fiords, glaciers, turquoise blue lakes and the picturesque coastal plains of Canterbury and Southland can all be found in the South Island.
New Zealand Heritage – also known as Aotearoa, the name given to it by the indigenous Maori who settled the islands around the year 850 AD. Translated, Aotearoa means “the land of the long white cloud”. The Maori possess a rich heritage unique to New Zealand, one they are happy to share with tourists through cultural events showcasing dance, music and traditional hangi (earth oven) feasts. The Maori language is an official language of New Zealand, and many towns, rivers, lakes and mountains are indeed named in Maori.
Nearly one third of New Zealand’s sparsely populated land has been set aside by the Department of Conservation, a government funded organisation, which administers the majority of this land. New Zealand has a stunning array of well-kept walkways and tracks, which provide access to unique wilderness areas and virgin rainforests. These areas can also be accessed for camping, hunting and fishing.
