Waiheke Island, known as New Zealand's 'island of wine' is a favoured holiday destination with a very large number of Auckland holiday homes. Waiheke Island is located about 18 kilometres from Auckland in the gulf and is the second-largest island in the Hauraki Gulf after Great Barrier Island. It is an ideal destination to relax and enjoy its fine wines, wine tours and many other attractions. Waiheke Island is easily accessed via regular ferries and domestic flights. Waiheke Island was also named in the Lonely Planet's top ten places to visit in 2016.
