The track gradient is generally gentle, with some steep steps either side of Bridal Veil Creek.

Oahu Point is 20km north of Kaikoura, and you cannot miss it if you are driving south from Picton. You'll start seeing seals swimming near the coast as you get close to Oahu, where some rocks offer a perfect shelter for fur seals and their puppies.

Observe seals and seabirds, explore historic pā and whaling sites and enjoy clifftop views of the sea and mountains. Suitable for families, the whole walkway takes three hours but you can also explore a range of shorter tracks.

The track makes it way alongside the creek and around the bass of the train bridge. The time stated for the walk on the notice board is 10 minutes. The walk around the rock face, remind me of the walk around the karangahake gorge in the north island. Watch out for seals they swim up the creek to the falls.

This walkway offers several geological and historic features as it traverses the edge of the Rakaia Gorge. The walkway passes through several forest and shrub communities before climbing the gorse-lined historic ferryman's track. Continue along one of several glacial and river-carved terraces to a good lookout point.

RICHMOND TRAIL - Lake Tekapo
Enjoy stunning views of Lake Tekapo while walking or riding this track. The trail travels along an old glacial terrace through tussocks and patches of native vegetation. On a fine day you get sweeping views of Lake Tekapo and the surrounding mountains. It is a steep descent above Boundary Stream on the way back to Lilybank Road.

One of the oldest Botanic Gardens, Timaru will surprise you with the depth and excellence of its collections as diverse as Australian plants, conifers and rose species. A border containing the native plants of the Canterbury region is of special note. Endangered plants from around the world can be seen in part of the conservatory complex.
