ARTHUR'S PASS NATIONAL PARK - Canterbury (South Island)
In the middle of the South Island lies Arthurs Pass National Park. It's a rugged area of the country, is mountainous and can get quite cold. The landscape varies from shingle riverbeds and beech forests to deeply gorged rivers and dense rainforest. Snow-covered peaks, glaciers and scree slopes also feature. Arthur's Pass village provides easy access to the park.
