Kaiapoi, also known as the 'River Town', is located on the banks of the Kaiapoi River, a tributary of the Waimakariri River. Kaiapoi is set north of Christchurch City in Canterbury, New Zealand. In earlier times, Kaiapoi was the site of the Ngai Tahu tribe's largest settlement. Kaiapoi is named after this Maori Pa, built around the year 1700.
