Kaikoura Nature and Eco Tourism

Kaikoura Nature Attractions and Eco Tourism is some of the best in New Zealand and is located in the northern Canterbury region. In the sea, Kaikoura is known for its magnificent whale watching (especially mighty sperm whales), its dolphin encounters (including swimming with the dusky dolphins), watching and swimming with the abundant fur seals, its bird watching (including the albatross and other sea birds), and its fishing in these rich waters. On land Kaikoura Nature Attractions and Eco Tourism includes fresh water fishing, hunting and hiking in the stunning Kaikoura mountain ranges. more

Have your most memorable holiday yet with Kaikoura nature attractions and eco tourism. Take a Kiakoura marine cruise and look not only for the Giant Sperm Whale (present year round), pods of dusky dolphins, fur seals and the wondering albatross; but also scan for seasonal humpback whales, the mighty blue whales, pilot whales, and southern right whales as well as killer whales and the Hector – world’s smallest and rarest dolphin.

Kiakoura is a picturesque coastal resort town with the impressive Seaward Kiakoura Mountain Ranges just behind it. Just south along the coast the mountains reach the sea and forming a breath-taking coastline. Scattered along the coastline are numerous seals who have crawled out of the ocean and are basking on the rocks in full view of the coastal highway. Just out to sea is a 2km deep ocean trench, the ocean currents cause a great upwelling bringing many fish and marine plant life up to shallower waters creating a abundant marine eco system – making it ideal for whales, dolphins, seals, fishing – as well as the delicious crayfish for which Kiakoura is famous for.
