Abel Tasman National Park Children's Parties
The Abel Tasman National Park is situated in the Nelson region, the north-west corner of the South Island bounded by Golden Bay and Tasman Bay. It is about 423km from Christchurch (roughly a six hour drive) and can be reached via Motueka (from the south), Totaranui or Takaka.
Founded in 1942, the Abel Tasman National Park is one of New Zealand's smallest national parks and named for the Dutch explorer, Abel Tasman. Administered by the Department of Conservation, its bright golden beaches, turquoise waters, rocky headlands and hiking tracks make it an extremely popular destination for locals and visitors. more
The park enjoys some of the most sunshine hours in New Zealand, although warm gear and rain clothing are recommended for winter and autumn visits. The most popular activities are walking the Abel Tasman Coastal Track (over three to five days) or taking a sea kayaking tour (single or multi day). Kayaking often involves close-up encounters with the many seals who live around the Tonga Island Marine Reserve. There are also many opportunities for fishing, mountain biking, sailing, bird-watching, camping and picnicking.
Accommodation ranges from camping grounds to private luxury lodges. Book in advance for visits during the busier spring and summer months.
