Aside from beautiful Lake Wanaka, Wanaka attractions are virtually limitless. About an hour's drive from Wanaka, the spectacular Rob Roy Glacier Track is an amazing world of alpine scenery, snowfields, glaciers, sheer rock cliffs and waterfalls. Scenic flights from Wanaka to Mt Cook are also a popular activity, along with a Middle-earth adventure through "Misty Mountains". Near to Wanaka are 3 ski fields which come alive in Winter. The world famous Stuart Landsborough's Puzzling World is a popular attraction, with mazes, puzzles and baffling illusion rooms.
Just a 15 minute drive from the Wanaka township, Lake Hawea is another popular attraction. Nestled in an idyllic setting of mountains, beautiful Lake Hawea is an attraction not to be missed. Fishing here is famous, alongside other activities which include hiking, lake-side walks, wind surfing, paragliding, kite surfing, boating, kayaking, and of course swimming.
