Wanganui is known for maori culture and heritage, the Whanganui National Park and the Whanganui River. Wanganui City rests on the banks of the Whanganui River. more
Although previously called Wanganui, the New Zealand Geographic Board recommended that the name be changed to "Whanganui", and the government decided in December 2009 that while either spelling was acceptable, Crown agencies would use the Whanganui spelling.
Wanganui main centres include Taihape, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Levin.
