Kapiti Coast Car and Transport Museums
The Kapiti Coast is the stretch of coastline on the south-west side of the North Island, north of Wellington and opposite Kapiti Island. The Kapiti Coast (once known as The Golden Coast) is less than 20km from Wellington and includes Paekakariki in the south to Otaki in the north. It includes the small towns of Te Horo, Waikanae, Paraparaumu, Raumati Beach and Raumati South.
Kapiti is most famous for its world-renowned bird sanctuary, Kapiti Island which lies about 5km off-shore. Kapiti Island is one of very few island nature reserves in New Zealand made accessible to visitors, giving them the opportunity to observe birds that are either rare or no longer on the mainland.
