Rugby World Cup Information

Quick Facts

Dan Carter
  • There will be approximately 1.65 million tickets available for sale.
  • Tournament Owner, RWCL has the ability to purchase 50% of tickets, although some of these have already been released back to public sale.
  • Tournament Organiser, RNZ 2011, will have more than a million tickets to sell.
  • It is expected that approximately 750,000 tickets will be made available for the first public phase of RWC 2011 ticketing.
  • The New Zealand Rugby Community will have access to one-third of the available public ticket quota from the first public phase of RWC 2011 ticketing.
  • Following the launch of Official Travel and Hospitality Packages early in 2010, and priority ticket offers to certain customer groups such as Venue and Season Members, tickets for RWC 2011 will go on sale to the global public in three sales phases starting in April 2010.

  • Remaining tickets will go on general sale in 2011.
  • Ticket Sales Phases

Phase 1: Venue and Team Pool Packs

During Phase 1 of RWC 2011 Ticketing, fans from New Zealand and around the world can apply for Venue and Team Pool Packs.

    • NUMBER OF TICKETS
      • It is anticipated that at least 750,000 tickets will be made available during Phase 1. The New Zealand Rugby Community will have access to one-third of available public tickets during this phase.
    • PACKS
      • Venue Pool Packs comprise one ticket to each RWC 2011 pool match at a chosen venue.
      • Team Pool Packs comprise one ticket to each RWC 2011 pool match for a chosen team.
      • Fans who apply for a Venue or Team Pool Pack will also have the option of adding a Quarter-final Weekend Pack (which comprises one ticket to each RWC 2011 quarter-final match in either Wellington or Christchurch) and/or tickets to the Bronze Final at Eden Park.
    • APPLICATION PROCESS
      • Fans may submit a Venue or Team Pool Pack application online at www.rugbyworldcup.com/tickets or via a paper form contained in the Official Ticket Guide.
      • The New Zealand Rugby Community may apply from 9am Monday, April 19 2010 (NZST). The global public may apply from 9am Tuesday, April 27 2010.
      • The application period for Phase 1 for both the New Zealand Rugby Community and the global public closes at 5pm Friday, May 21 2010 (NZST).
      • At that stage we will begin processing applications. In the event that demand for any packs or tickets exceeds availability in this phase, applications will be randomly selected. Notification of the outcomes of applications will be issued on or before Tuesday, June 30 2010.
    • THE NEW ZEALAND RUGBY COMMUNITY
      • The New Zealand Rugby Community will have access to one-third of available tickets during Phase 1. This is a similar offer afforded to the Australian Rugby Community in 2003 and to the European Rugby Community in 2007.
      • The New Zealand Rugby Community is defined as "All registered players, coaches, team management, referees, volunteers, employees, administrators, members and season pass holders of NZRU, NZRU members, NZRU associate members, Rugby clubs, schools and related Rugby organisations".
      • Applications from the New Zealand Rugby Community will be processed first. In the event that an application received from a member of the New Zealand Rugby Community is unsuccessful, that application will be added to those from the global public. In addition any packs not taken up within the Rugby Community allocation will be added to the global public allocation.

    Phase 2: Individual Tickets

    • Individual tickets for every match except the semi-finals and the final will be released in Phase 2. This is expected to occur in either August or September 2010.
    • Details as to how Phase 2 will operate will be confirmed in July.
    • RNZ 2011 has set aside a limited number of tickets for each match (excluding the semi-finals and the final). More tickets are likely to be released back from the Commercial Programme so total numbers available are unknown at this stage. Numbers will be confirmed in advance of Phase 2 opening.

Phase 3: Ballots for Semi-Finals and the Final

    • Fans who apply for tickets in Phase 1 or Phase 2 may elect to enter the ballots for the option to purchase tickets for the semi-finals and/or the final. Fans will receive one entry into the ballots for each ticket applied for during Phase 1 or Phase 2.
    • RWC 2011 prefers MasterCard®. Applicants who use a MasterCard to apply for RWC 2011 Pool Packs will earn double entries into the ballots for the option to purchase semi-finals and final tickets.
    • When people submit their applications, they may choose to enter the ballots for semi-final 1, semi-final 2 and/or the final. There will be a separate tick box for each, both online and in the paper application.
    • Entry into the ballots is not contingent on the applicant being successful in their Phase 1 or 2 ticket applications. This means that in the case where someone applies for a pack in Phase 1, but misses out, they are still entered into the ballot(s) they have elected to enter.
    • It is expected that the ballots will run in Novembers 2010. Entrants will be drawn at random electronically. Those who are sucessful in the ballots will be offered two tickets for either semi-final or the final for each entry drawn. All successful ballots entrants will receive a confirmation letter or email offering the the opportunity to purchase tickets for the relevant match(es) within a specific price category.

    Ticket Prices

    • Tickets will be available in either Packs (Venue Pool Packs, Team Pool Packs and Quarter-final Weekend Packs) or individual tickets depending on the Sales Phase. Each ticket product will be available in up to five Price Categories.
    • A handling fee of NZD $15 is payable per transaction and will be charged to each successful application. Additional fees may be payable depending on the payment and/or delivery method selected. All prices are in New Zealand dollars and include NZ GST at the current rate.
