Taranaki Rhododendron & Garden Festival
Visitors to the Taranaki Rhododendron and Garden Festival, one of New Zealand's longest running garden festivals, can enjoy exploring forty-nine beautiful gardens in the Taranaki district including:
- Park-like country gardens and public gardens of significance
- Geometric gardens
- Intimate inner city potager gardens
- Sub-tropical or rainforest gardens
- Special interest gardens including a Japanese tea house garden
- Vegetable gardens including an organic garden, tiny urban garden and nursery
This 10-day festival runs between 29th October and 7th November and also includes jazz and wine parties, guided walks, practical garden workshops and talks from guest speakers featuring growing tips and gardening talks. A special package featuring steam train travel, accommodation and garden tours is also available. Taranaki is situated on the west coast New Zealand's North Island and is halfway between Auckland and Wellington. The region is dominated by Mount Taranaki, the dramatic volcanic cone that doubled up as Mount Fuji in the Tom Cruise movie, The Last Samurai. The region is known for excellent hiking opportunities in the Egmont National Park as well as its black sand surfing beaches, gardens and parks.
