Christmas Events 2011
A Christmas away from home is always going to be different and visitors from the northern hemisphere may find a hot, sunny festive period difficult to imagine. However, there are lots of events, both large and small, throughout the country this December such as parades, picnics and parties, which feature Father Christmas, tinsel and trees, cakes and crackers. We've selected a few examples of Christmas events being held in the major centres, but you will find events held throughout the country advertised online, on the local radio, in the local press and on local billboards.
Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park
An unmissable event if you're in either in Auckland or Christchurch. This are New Zealand's biggest outdoor Christmas concerts featuring the country's top singers, dancers, musicians, choirs and bands – and it's free. The firework finale is well worth staying for. Take a picnic, a rug and warm clothing.

Santa Parades
People line the route of the local Santa Parade to watch and wave at floats, cars and trailers featuring local community groups and businesses, and of course, Father Christmas. Great fun for all the family and the children will love lolly scrambling (picking up sweets thrown to the crowd) and freebies such as flags and balloons.
