Extended Description: The fern is as synonymous with New Zealand as the kiwi. It is widely used as a sporting, trading and tourism symbol. There are 180 different species of fern found in New Zealand. Bright green on top and silver underneath, these ferns were used by the early Māori to guide them through the forest.
